A Better Way to Set Goals and Grow to 7 Figures and More, Today!

A Better Way to Set Goals and Grow to 7 Figures and More, Today! Set goals that you can actually go out and execute.

Have you heard comments like the following about goal setting, self-help, personal improvement and the likes?

  • That is common sense
  • Everyone knows that
  • Nothing new

Comments like these are often made by those that accomplish little.

Funny thing is, they are right.

It is true.  Common sense, most know and nothing new.

Yet , when put into practice and executed it is like magic happens.  Goals are realized and accomplished.

The real irony is this is the process most take to become successful.

To scale and grow a business the process can be simple and common sense.

“Goals are like magnets. They’ll attract the things that make them come true.”

Tony Robbins

Set the Goal

  • Be Held Accountable
  • Involve Your Staff or Team
  • Measure Progress in Real Time

Check out the video and see how I put this in action with my staff and grew 20% year over year and how I would do it BETTER today!

Involve your staff and team, give them ownership and a piece of the action…They often know more than you and contribute real time feedback.

The Score Board, track your progress.  Make it SIMPLE.  Everyone on the staff and team that contributes to the goal needs to set it daily.  Mine was way to much information.

Make sure your score board is NOT numbers at the end of the month…. It is too late if they are after the fact.  The data was a month old and it was too late to change.

Understand what drives your business and its growth.  Ask, What can you do right now to have the greatest impact moving the needle?

Possible Million Dollar Return on this ONE Investment, Relationships!

Possible Million Dollar Return on this ONE Investment, Relationships!

Relationships are no different than a piggy bank.

Just like putting pennies, nickels and quarters in the bank ensure the day you bust the bank open there is money… relationships need a consistent investment for the same reason.

The day you want to leverage that relationship there must be something there.  This means a REGULAR Investment must be Made!

“SAYING HELLO DOESN’T HAVE AN ROI. IT’S ABOUT BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS.”

– Gary Vaynerchuck

If you must set an appointment on your calendar to make the investment, do it.

The return will be exponential.

Ways to Make a Continued Investment

  • Pick up the phone and call
  • Send a message or email
  • Meet for Lunch
  • Volunteer and get involved with their organization or charity
  • Put birthdays on the calendar and mail a car

Make the investment.

You will be glad you did.

When the time comes and you bust the bank open, people will be there.

Just like pennies, nickels, and dimes in a piggy bank.

No investment, no return.

In some case the return could be worth millions.

Early in my entrepreneurial career I learned this lesson the hard way.  At the time I owned a training and coaching business.

One day I got an email with

Subject: Re: ZenZen’s Nutritionist in DeKalb

Date: May 6,

ZenZen was Dick ZenZen.  A super successful powerlifter and powerlifting coach.  He was a friend and client.  Turns out he referred me to an athlete then playing for the 49’ers.

I worked with the with the athlete off and on for a year. The athlete grew up minutes down the road from my office

After one of our meetings he said he would be back in town for a few weeks during the coming summer for a foundation he started doing stuff with young athletes and asked me to be part of it.

I had every intention.  But intention does not equal action.  I never followed up and got involved.

Epic Fail.

Shortly after this, I purchased a commercial gym and added sport performance training.

What if I had made investment in that relationship?

The next time I worked with an athlete in the NFL I made regular investments.  Impossible to put a dollar value on the return from doing so.  Yes, I learned my lesson.

Make the investment.

You Won’t Know if You Don’t Go

“You Won’t Know if You Don’t Go”… my former director of sales said at lunch.

Every year he and some friends took an annual fishing trip.  He and one other guy would always go up to the boundary waters early and scout for the best place to cast a few lines on the upcoming trip.

Without miss the other guys ask, “how the fishing was at all of the other spots?”

The answer… “You won’t know if you don’t go.”

“You have to go!”

Recently I travelled west to the black hills with family and friends.  My friend is an outdoorsman and wanted to hire a guide and fly fish.

I had never fly fished and recalled…”You won’t know if you don’t go.”

I went.

Water was cold… temperature hot…. Great combo.

Through the woods, the brush and up the side of the black hills we went 1.5-2 miles.

Into the current.  The water is cold and the sun warm.  Something to be experienced, not read about or told about….

Add to that one of the most amazing back drops… and of course raising a few dozen fish.

I know because I went.

You Won’t Know if You Don’t Go in Life and Business. You have to go. You have to take the chance and get the experience.

Isn’t it time for you to get going?

Likes and Comments Do Not Equal Sales and How to Fix That

Social media can be a powerful tool to grow your business. It is a free and easy way to get in front of your customers and potential customers.

Businesses often make a big mistake on social media.

The business confuse likes, follows or subscribers with increased business.

Likes and Comments Do Not Equal Sales and How to Fix That

Example

Take personal trainers or coaches. Many have a significant following, but not a significant number of sales.

Why?

Likes/Follows/Subscribers Do Not Equal Sales

The personal trainer or coach shares the wrong content and attracts an audience that will never become a paying customer.

Traditionally this is what is referred to as unqualified leads.

Likes, follows and subscribers by the RIGHT audience can equal sales. Social media can be a powerful tool to grow your business.

There is a significant difference.

How to Change This

1) Clearly define your customer

2) Solve a problem your potential customer has, not a problem YOU think they have

3) Spend most of your time on the social media platform your customer is on

4) Confirm they have the means to purchase your goods or services

5) Produce content that your customers consume

One through five above require time invested researching your customer and the market.

“Approach each customer with the idea ofhelping him or her solve a problem or achieve a goal, not of selling a product or service.” — Brian Tracy

A business that has clearly defined their target customer, placed content on the right social platform will turn social media into a powerful revenue generating tool.

Interesting things happen when social media is done right.

· The business does not need a HUGE following just the RIGHT audience.

· Clear understanding of the customer produces a greater connection and long-term potential to build a large following of qualified leads. It just takes time.

Chase sales dollars, not follows and likes and social media will be a powerful tool to grow your business!

Be Productive NOT Busy if you want to Scale and Grow Your Business.

Be Productive NOT Busy.

So many businesses are confusing the two.

Be Productive NOT Busy if you want to scale and grow your business.

Business is about sales, revenue and profitability… these are the corporate report cards.???

Being busy for the sake of being busy is a waste of time.

With many working a remotely, on site or hybrid on site and remotely… it is NOT about being busy and seen digitally.

“Success is the progressive realization of a worthy goal or ideal.”

Earl Nightingale

It is about productivity!

? Don’t make the mistake of encouraging staff to busy and visible.

? Encourage them to be productive per their job description for their position.

Speaking of Job Description…make sure what is expected of the position is clearly communicated to the employee.

Define:
-What are the executing daily and what is the desired outcome
-How will performance be measured
-If working remote or hybrid what does that mean

No companies goal is as follows

“we want you to be visible being busy for the sake of being busy online while working remotely.”

Make sure it is not your goal.

Be Productive NOT Busy if you want to scale and grow your business.

What is Your Pivot? The Secret to Saving Your Business.

What is your pivot? The secret that will save your business.

What is Your Pivot?

Things that come out of left field and can devastate your business.

1) Recession

2) Bubble’s bursting, think Tech Bubble, Housing Bubble

3) Pandemic

4) Global Conflict

5) Supply Chain Disruption

6) Natural Disaster

As a business owner I have been through 5 of the 6 above.

Which and when are unknown. What is known, is there will be another.

Successful businesses have a built-in hedge against them. They have a pivot.

A pivot will allow your business to connect goods or services with the customer. This is true for B to C and B to B. Start with understanding what your business does, it will not change much. How you do things will change. This is the pivot.

You are still going to connect with the customer. The method to connect will be different.

Pivoting is not the end of the disruption process, but the beginning of the next leg of your journey.

-Jay Samit

Pivot examples:

1) Curbside pick up

2) Online ordering and delivery

3) Go virtual

4) Move outdoors

We coached clients through pivoting through the last two years.

One specialty grocer was forced to close their store. They pivoted taking orders online and doing curb side pick-up. The best part is this cut operating expenses and with online ordering allowed them to build a data base of a few thousand customers.

Another customer is a boutique training gym. They offered in personal and group training. The doors had to be closed per mandates. Clients were allowed to take some equipment home. Training was delivered virtually. In the short term the business kept revenue coming in. Long term, they have a virtual component and revenue stream of their business they can use indefinitely.

Your business having a plan to pivot is the oxygen that will sustain your business for years to come.

What is your Pivot?

Walk Away from Bad Deals if you Want to Be Successful

You must walk away from bad deals if you want to be successful.

Walk Away from Bad Deals…

Ever watch some business owners that seem to get everything right.  Regardless of deal they always end up on the winning side.  Midas and the Midas touch come to time.

I watched a business owner friend for a few years.  It was like he had the Midas touch.  Every deal, a winner.

It seemed like every venture he got involved with was successful.  This was true with businesses in the continental US as well as in other countries.

How?  No one wins every deal, every time.

… I realized his secret was to walk from bad deals. He kept his emotions out of the deal.  Just because he could do something, he accepted that he shouldn’t.  Unless the odds were stacked in his favor.  If he had to compromise to much he walked from the deal.

It was that easy… no ego… no emotional attachment… if the deal was not in his favor he walked….?

? Last deal I watched him do was for $50MM…. he sold a few businesses and then starting doing real estate at a grand scale in Chicago.?

You must walk away from bad deals if you want to be successful.

“Continuous improvement is better than delayed perfection.”

 – Mark Twain

If you set Perfect as the goal, be prepared to fail, stall and stay the same.  Perfect doesn’t exist.  Worse, perfect is a trap.

Why Not Perfect

  1. Perfect Leads to Procrastination

Here is the Better Way

This can be summed up in a simple way.  Continuous improvement, or Kaizen.

kaizen

[ kahy-zen ]

Noun

-a business philosophy or system that is based on making positive changes on a regular basis, as to improve productivity.

-an approach to one’s personal or social life that focuses on continuous improvement.

Kaizen is from the Japanese words “kai” which means “change” and “-zen” which means “good.”  Change for the better or often stated as continuous improvement.

Focus on improving the key performance indicators (KPI).  Every day just a little better.  TrackKPI’s in real time.  Don’t wait until the end of the month, quarter or year to look at them as it will be too late to change or improve them.

Scale and Grow Your Business.  Make the goal the pursuit of perfection via Continuous Improvement or Kaizen.

Forget Perfect, Perfect does not exist.
